Clearwell Castle
Venue overview
Clearwell Castle, nestled in the picturesque Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, serves as a unique wedding venue steeped in history. Dating back to the mid-15th century, this award-winning castle is set in 20 acres of landscaped grounds, offering both a majestic setting and a charming atmosphere for couples planning their special day.
The venue features a variety of spaces, including the elegant Ballroom with its 75-foot aisle, ideal for ceremonies and receptions. Guests are welcomed through a striking portcullis and can enjoy a variety of amenities, including a cocktail terrace, croquet lawn, and multiple suites for overnight accommodation.
Why it may suit weddings and events
Clearwell Castle offers flexibility for both ceremonies and receptions. Couples can choose between the grand indoor Ballroom or an outdoor ceremony at the Bandstand, benefiting from the castle’s stunning backdrop. Following the ceremony, guests can enjoy drinks on the terrace or take photographs in the lush gardens while the setup for the evening festivities takes place.
For dining, the venue provides a spacious setting for meals, allowing the castle’s in-house catering team to create bespoke menus. The flexible layouts accommodate various styles, from banquet seating to more casual arrangements. This adaptability makes it an appealing choice for couples looking to personalise their event.
DJ setup and supplier access notes
When planning to bring in equipment, DJs should note that loading access is straightforward, although some comments suggest confirming the specifics. How far is the loading area from the setup position? Clearwell Castle has designated spaces for DJ setup, but it would be prudent to check about parking availability for suppliers and the distance to the main event areas.
An essential detail for DJs is the availability of power outlets near the setup area, as well as any restrictions on sound levels or curfew times that may affect evening receptions. Some reviews indicate that communication with the venue staff is quite good, aiding in logistics management. Always confirm the noise policies before booking.
Sound, timings and guest experience
Regarding sound limits, DJs should inquire if there are any sound limiters in place, as this could affect performance. One review mentions an effective communication flow with the venue, which is important for coordinating schedules and managing the evening’s entertainment.
Evening receptions run smoothly according to past guests, but DJs may want to confirm the ideal timings for transitions between dinner and the dance floor to ensure all guests are engaged. The modern Cellar Bar serves as a contemporary setting for celebrations, featuring a spacious dance floor ideal for lively dancing.
Reviews and client feedback themes
Feedback from couples frequently highlights the venue’s stunning location and attentive staff. Common praises include the helpfulness of the wedding coordinators and the quality of on-site catering. Some guests noted minor timing issues on the day but overall expressed satisfaction with the experience. One couple noted, “We felt like royalty all day,” reflecting the positive atmosphere that Clearwell Castle fosters.
This rating reflects a moderate level of logistical information available, meaning DJs should verify setup specifics and sound level restrictions with the venue directly.
