Frequently Asked Questions
This can vary between different venues and setup sizes. A standard disco in a venue with direct access from the van can be up and running in as little as 30 minutes. Whereas old hotels with long corridors and some Oxford colleges can take a couple of hours or more!
In the interests of safety, lasers are rarely used at most events. Laser dot effects are avoided completely, as these effects are notorious for spoiling photos. I do use strobe effects very briefly as short bursts lasting a matter of a few seconds during more energetic dance sets. Please advise if any persons likely to effected by this are present in the audience so the lighting can be subdued accordingly.
As an 80s kid, I consider myself lucky to have spent my formative years during the 80s and 90s. Yes, I am ‘taping songs off the Top 40 on a Sunday’ old! So, for me, the 80s is personal favourite decade for music and the 90s a close second, with a varied love of Pop, Dance, Rock, Reggae, Ska and everything else.
I describe myself as an ‘open format’ DJ. I play a huge variety of genres and eras, appealing to all ages and tastes, including international guests. Whilst I am by no means a club DJ, I aim to mix and sequence all songs properly, keeping the energy and vibes flowing seamlessly without any gaps. I’m a confident speaker and will gladly announce and introduce key moments and the occasional shout-out, but not to the extent of chatting all over the music!
Absolutely! I suggest a list of around 5 to 10 must play songs and an additional 10 to 15 ‘play if possible’ songs. This allows flexibility to accommodate guest requests and to allow for ‘reading the room’. It goes without saying that there’ll be songs you’d rather not hear, so a list of DO NOT PLAY songs and artists are always encouraged!
Of course! I provide everything to make your event sound as good as it looks. From a fully enclosed DJ booth through to superb sound and atmospheric, fully programmed lighting to harmonise with your venue. The standard of which equals or exceeds that of event production hire companies, eliminating additional rental costs.
