London Rowing Club

Venue overview

London Rowing Club is located on the picturesque Embankment in Putney, South West London. This historic Victorian building provides scenic views of the River Thames and the nearby Bishops Park. Originally established in 1856, the club has been modernised while preserving its charming period features, making it a unique location for a variety of events.

The venue offers a flexible space that can accommodate both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations. With a licensed capacity of up to 100 guests for civil ceremonies in the Long Room, it serves as a versatile setting for weddings and events alike, ensuring a memorable experience for couples and their guests.

Why it may suit weddings and events

The Long Room at London Rowing Club is bright and airy, featuring large period-style windows and rustic decor, including vintage rowing boats suspended from the ceiling. This neutral space can be customised to fit any colour scheme, making it a perfect backdrop for weddings. Additionally, couples can host receptions on the 20-metre long balcony, allowing guests to enjoy the stunning river views while mingling.

Many reviews highlight the helpfulness of the venue staff, particularly in planning and coordinating events. Guests can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere where they feel well taken care of, contributing to a seamless event flow. The venue’s proximity to public transport makes it accessible for guests arriving from different locations.

DJ setup and supplier access notes

When planning to set up at London Rowing Club, DJs should confirm the following details: parking availability for vendor loading, as well as any restrictions on transport access. The venue is reportedly a short walk from several public transport options, but the precise parking arrangements for suppliers may need clarification.

Set up should ideally take place in the Long Room, which offers ample space. DJs are advised to check for power outlets and inquire about the availability of sound equipment, including whether any sound limiters are in place. The presence of stairs or any barriers to access should also be verified to ensure that all equipment can be moved in and out efficiently.

Sound, timings and guest experience

Review comments suggest that while the atmosphere at the venue is generally very positive, it is prudent for DJs to check for any sound restrictions. A sound limiter might be in effect, so discussing this in advance will aid in planning the evening’s entertainment.

Timings for the evening reception should also be confirmed with the venue, as this will help in scheduling music and entertainment effectively. Maintaining open communication with the venue staff will ensure all elements of the event flow smoothly and allow for a memorable guest experience.

Reviews and client feedback themes

Client feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, detailing the beauty and character of the venue. Many couples appreciate the venue’s flexibility, particularly in allowing them to choose their own caterers and the well-stocked bar. However, a few reviews highlighted a logistical issue regarding flooding along the river, which may require planning for outdoor photo opportunities, especially during peak tide times. One reviewer succinctly noted, “We fell in love with the long room and the view.”

DJ suitability rating

Based on the available evidence, the DJ suitability rating for London Rowing Club is 3.0 out of 5. This rating reflects the potential logistical questions surrounding access, setup, power, and sound limits that need confirmation with the venue.
